Marius Dicpetris is a trombonist, composer, percussionist, singer, and world musician. He was born in Tampa in 1977 and grew up in Saint Petersburg, Florida, where he began his studies with Otto Blankle, Frank T. Williams and Dr David Manson. While a student at the University of Miami, Marius studied jazz and classical music and pursued private lessons with Florida Philharmonic Trombonist Tim Conner. During a two-year stint at U.M., Marius obtained his A.A. degree from the Florida Community College at Jacksonville and worked extensively as a freelance trombonist. He performed with The Manhattan Transfer, The River City Big Band, The Les DeMerle Orchestra, The Lamp Lighters Orchestra, and Orquesta Riaces, and had a two-year contract with the show band Diggin In Dreamland.
In 1998, Marius enrolled in the prestigious University of North Florida Jazz Studies program founded by the late great jazz musician Rich Matteson. While at U.N.F. Marius received an American Music Scholarship and studied jazz trombone with Paul Weilke. Also while at U.N.F. Marius won the prestigious Frank Rosolino Memorial Scholarship. This included a spotlight performance at the 2000 International Trombone Festival in Utrecht, The Netherlands. After receiving a bachelor degree in jazz studies from U.N.F., Marius embarked on a four-month residency on board the Norwegian Majesty cruise ship, which sailed every week from Boston to Bermuda. Marius' next journey took him to the wonderful city of New York.
In New York, Marius freelanced around the metropolitan area at such venues as Birdland, Dizzy's Jazz Club, The Dancing Goat, Gonzales Y Gonzales, and The Galapagos Arts Space in Brooklyn. He was awarded a scholarship to attend Manhattan School of Music, and studied with Dave Taylor, Conrad Herwig, Jack Gale, Bobby Sanabria, and Dave Liebman. He also performed in the Afro-Cuban big bands at MSM and The New School. Marius received his Master Degree from MSM in 2004. In 2005 and 2006 Marius toured Japan, Canada, and the U.S. with the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Currently Marius is a freelance musician in the New York City area.
